RMD basics and why timing matters
RMDs are the annual withdrawals you must take from traditional IRAs and 401(k)s once you reach the required age. For those born in 1960 or later, that age is 73. Starting to map out withdrawals in your 60s can spread the tax impact instead of facing one large taxable distribution that raises your bracket or Medicare costs.
