Covering health costs until Medicare
If you leave your job before 65, you must pay for health coverage until Medicare starts. COBRA from your employer plan lasts 18 months at full cost plus 2 percent, often $700 to $1,200 a month for one person. Set aside that amount now and compare ACA marketplace plans, which may cost less if your income qualifies for subsidies.
